WLYSA Referee Program


The WLYSA Referee Program provides youth 12+ years old and adults the opportunity to utilize their BC Soccer Referee Certification.

Referees assist Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association with officiating games throughout the year and are paid by set honorarium based on age group and type of game officiated. 

All qualified, and certified referees are able to apply to WLYSA to be contacted and scheduled for games throughout the year. 



Referee Certification Requirements

The following is required of referees to be eligible to apply to the WLYSA Referee Program:

 

  • Referees interested in officiating games for U7 - U12 age groups must be 12 years of age or older, and certified by completing the Small Sided Referee Clinic through BC Soccer.
  • Referees that are 14 years of age or older and interested in officiating games for the Referee’s current age group or under, must be certified by completing the Small Sided Module and Entry Level Referee Clinic through BC Soccer.
  • Referees that have previously completed either the Small Sided or Entry Level Courses must complete the required annual registrations and refreshers to maintain their certification level.

Referee Courses

WLYSA in partnership with other Cariboo Youth Soccer District members (100 Mile House and Quesnel) plan to host online and in-person clinics for yearly certification of interested referees in the Small Sided and Entry Level Clinics. 

2024 On-field Referee Clinics will be hosted in Williams Lake at the Esler Soccer Complex.

  Small Sided Clinic Entry Level Clinic
Online Session 1 April 11th 6:00pm-8:00pm April 18th 6:00pm-8:30pm
Online Session 2 April 18th 6:00pm-8:00pm -only one online session-
On-Field Session April 27th 10:00am-12:00pm April 27th 1:00pm-4:30pm

All components of the courses must be completed to receive full certification.

  • Small Sided Clinic Registration Instructions: Click Here
    • IMPORTANT: 
      • Applicants enrolling in Small Sided Clinics must be 12 years of age on or before December 31 of the current year. This is a firm requirement set by Canada Soccer.
      • To receive full credit for this clinic students must attend the (3) sessions NO EXCEPTIONS and transferring clinics is not permitted.
      • Registration closes at 12:00am 1 day prior to the start date for Small Sided Clinics. If registrants do not complete full payment ($44.46) upon registering they will be automatically removed from the class list 1 day prior to the clinic start date NO EXCEPTIONS.
      • If a clinic is full, there are currently no waitlists so please review the registration page: Click Here from time to time to see if a spot opens up or register for a different clinic. 
  • Entry Level Clinics Registration Instructions: Click Here
    • IMPORTANT: 
      • Applicants enrolling in Entry Level Clinics must be 14 years of age on or before December 31 of the current year. This is a firm requirement set by Canada Soccer.
      • To receive full credit for this clinic students must attend the (2) sessions NO EXCEPTIONS and transferring clinics is not permitted.
      • Registration closes at 12:00am 3 days prior to the start date for Entry Level Clinics. If registrants do not complete full payment ($135.71) upon registering they will be automatically removed from the class list 3 days prior to the clinic start date NO EXCEPTIONS.
      • If a clinic is full, there are currently no waitlists so please review the registration page: Click Here from time to time to see if a spot opens up or register for a different clinic. 

Please note that the registration cut off dates listed above have been established because BC Soccer requires time to complete administration tasks listed below that are associated with each clinic: 

  • Entry Level Clinics Only: Students require time to complete the 17 pre-clinic modules (7-10 hours of work) which must be completed before the first webinar no exceptions. 

 

Refresher Clinics: Emails from BC Soccer - each referee should have received in February if they are eligible for a refresher clinic.

Small Sided

 Dear Small-Sided Referee, 

 This email is a reminder to complete your annual registration, which expires on March 31, 2024. If your registration expires, you will not be eligible to referee after March 31, 2024 until you complete your registration. For instructions on how to complete this, please view the step-by-step guide on how to renew your annual registration here. You will need to complete an online refresher quiz first and then complete the registration process and payment. 

 If you became a small-sided referee after July 15th, 2023, you DO NOT need to complete the refresher. Additionally, if you have taken the Entry Level (full-field) referee course, you DO NOT need to complete the small-sided refresher quiz or registration. 

 

Full-Field 

Dear Referee, 

This email is a reminder to complete your annual registration, which expires on March 31, 2024. If your registration expires, you will not be eligible to referee after March 31, 2024 until you complete your registration. For instructions on how to complete this, please view the step-by-step guide on how to renew your annual registration here. You will need to pay for and complete either the online refresher or an in-person refresher course if one is available in your area before you can complete the registration process. 

If you became a referee after September 1, 2023, you DO NOT need to complete the refresher

 

 

Referee Course Reimbursement Policy

WLYSA will reimburse all referees for their annual course fees following their participation in the WLYSA Referee Program. At least one (1) game must be officiated to be eligible for the course reimbursement. 

Course reimbursement will be included in the end of the season honorarium cheques.

Referee Code of Conduct

All referees that apply into the WLYSA Referee Program will be required to sign, acknowledge and understand the WLYSA Referee Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct outlines the expectations that WLYSA has for each referee and the support each referee can expect from WLYSA. 

 

Referee Welcome 

WLYSA will be hosting a referee welcome evening for referees, and parents to go over the Code of Conduct and answer any questions prior to the start of the spring season.
